I know you will not believe this!

There are many forms of lobstering in the Florida Keys, most of which are well known to all.

I thought, however, I would introduce you to a method you probably never heard of!

It is called "Bully Netting" and I have been successful getting my limit without even getting wet!

The "sport" capitalizes on the living/feeding habits of the spiny lobster. They are nocturnal feeders and prefer to hide during the day. They prefer to feed in shallow water and hide as deep as possible. Knowing these facts, you need to find a location where deep and shallow water are in proximity, perhaps a channel next to flats. This of course occurs everywhere in the Keys! The "tools":

• small boat
• push poles
• high intensity spot light
• bully net
  • Shrimp net bent 90 degrees to the pole, a weight and fish line attached to the very end of the basket
• BIG coooler!

• This sport is done at night and the darker the better (ie:no moon)
• pole the flats (1-2ft water is fine)
• while polling, shine light and look for feeding lobster (their eyes shine back red)
• poll to "candidate"
• place net over lobster while holding the string to keep the basket up
• release string which releases weight
• lobster swims backwards into the net basket
• scoop up, place in boat, measure, add to cooler
• drink a beer
• repeat "pole the flats", etc.
